I am an Occaisional Teacher for York Region who is qualified for Junior/Intermediate/Senior divisions. My question is this, how do I know which AQ courses will make me more marketable for both Long Term Occaisional and Full Time work with a board? There are so many, and it can be very intimidating!
Thanks for any and all comments,
Erica
I'm an occassional teacher applying for contract positions. In preparing for interviews I can't seem to find enough information resources on planning methods. Any software recommendations?
thanks
I would like to pass along this "good news" item about mentoring and professional development. There are some great opportunities for new and experienced teachers to design their own professional development through provincial and local funding initiatives. The project outlined below came about as a response to needs expressed by teachers at a First Five Years ETFO-WR committee workshop on teaching Drama. We started with some "what if" conversations, filled out some simple paperwork to ask...
Thinking of returning to school to become an elementary teacher. Graduated with BA nearly ten years ago and hating my desk job. I'm crazy organized (anal), hate my desk job b/c I feel stifled and love "presentations" (anything where I can be in front of people talking). It's the actual "teaching" part that I'm not sure about. I haven't the foggiest idea how to make kids learn (despite having an infant daughter).
Does teacher's college teach you "how to" teach or do some people just...

You not only have to plan the lessons, know the curriculum guidelines and assessment practices, find appropriate resources, but also get to know your students and their strengths and needs. Sometimes it can be overwhelming, particularly during reporting and interviewing time.
In my last school as principal, when a new teacher was starting in the fall, the teachers would arrange for a 'work day...
How do you establish an appropriate consequence to an inappropriate behaviour when that behaviour becomes disruptive to the classroom? What types of consequences would be appropriate to use for disruptive behaviours, such as talking out loud, answering without raising a hand, wandering, not paying attention, talking while a lesson is being taught?
What suggestions for procedures in the classroom should be established for intermediate grades 7 and 8? How do you effectively teach procedures to this age level of students?
The first set of report cards are always a challenge. November comes so quickly! Most of your assessments may indeed be observations, checklists, and review tests/ assignments. These assessments will be the basis for your evaluation for the report cards. Perhaps asking the principal for clarification of what is expected may be required. A rule of thumb that I use for evaluation is the "most recent and most consistent" assessments are the basis for the final evaluation. It would not be an...
